How to find who doesn't follow you back on Instagram (free, no app)

To find who doesn't follow you back on Instagram, you compare two lists: the accounts you follow and the accounts that follow you. Anyone on the first list but not the second is a non-follower. You can do this for free, without any app that needs your password, by using your own Instagram data export.

Third-party apps that ask for your Instagram password are a security risk and against Instagram's terms — they can get your account suspended. There's a safer way: Instagram lets you download your own data, and a tool like Glimpsr reads it entirely in your browser.

What counts as a non-follower

A non-follower is an account you follow that does not follow you back. It's different from a 'fan' (someone who follows you that you don't follow back) and a 'mutual' (you both follow each other). When people say 'who doesn't follow me back', they mean non-followers specifically.

Note that Instagram never notifies anyone about follows or unfollows, so checking your non-followers is completely private — no one is told you looked.

Request your data in JSON

In Instagram, open Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information. Choose 'Followers and following' and set the format to JSON (not HTML — HTML exports can't be parsed). Instagram emails a download link, usually within an hour or two.

Upload it to Glimpsr

When the ZIP arrives by email, drop it into Glimpsr. It's decompressed in a Web Worker and never uploaded. In seconds you'll see exactly who you follow that doesn't follow you back, sortable and searchable, plus your fans and mutuals.

How often should you check?

Most people check a few times a year, or before a cleanup. Because each export is a snapshot in time, re-running it periodically also lets you see who unfollowed you between checks — not just who currently doesn't follow back. There's no benefit to checking daily, and nothing about reviewing your lists affects your account.

FAQ

Can I see who doesn't follow me back without an app?
Yes. Your followers and following lists are in the data export Instagram lets you download. A browser tool only needs to read that file — it doesn't need to log into your account or know your password.
Is it against Instagram's rules to check non-followers?
Reading your own downloaded data is fine. What violates Instagram's terms is letting a third-party app log in with your credentials or automate follows/unfollows — which is also what risks a ban.
