One honest caveat: a single data export only shows your followers right now. What you can and can't see

  • Who doesn't follow you back — accounts you follow that don't follow you (your non-followers), available from a single export.
  • Who unfollowed you going forward — anyone who drops off between two snapshots you save over time.
  • Your fans and mutuals — people who follow you that you don't follow back, and accounts where the follow is mutual.
  • Not past unfollowers — and not anything about accounts you've never interacted with. The export contains only your own relationship lists.

Edge cases

  • Private accounts: it makes no difference — you're reading your own data export, not anyone else's profile, so privacy settings don't affect it.
  • Large accounts: exports with tens of thousands of followers parse fine — the work happens in your browser in a background worker, so the page stays responsive.
  • Got an HTML export by mistake? Re-request it and choose JSON — HTML exports are formatted for viewing and can't be parsed.

Why not just use an unfollower app?

Unfollow tracking means checking back on a schedule, and repeatedly handing an app your Instagram login is exactly what puts an account at risk — it violates Instagram's terms and is a common route to a suspension.
